Handel wrote a small number of arias for soprano and solo trumpet and we are presenting the four most dazzling, featuring two stunning soloists; local superstar, Jessica Dean and Leanne Sullivan, Australia’s most celebrated performer on the Baroque trumpet. ‘Let the Bright Seraphim’ from Handel’s Oratorio Sampson, written immediately after the success of the Messiah and ‘Eternal Source of Light Divine’ from Queen Anne’s Birthday Ode are perhaps the most familiar arias. This program also features some of Handel’s best loved orchestral works designed to light up St Peter’s Cathedral.
