Jane Downer - baroque oboe & recorder
Kim Worley - baroque cello
In pieces of fantasy and invention, three composers from the Baroque era exploit the technical and expressive capabilities of solo instruments to the full, including excerpts from one of J S Bach’s profound and extraordinary Suites for unaccompanied cello. Telemann’s short solo Fantasias are pieces of unrestrained imagination and ingenuity containing cleverly concealed fugues, broad and challenging leaps for contrapuntal effect, and folk dance. Bellinzani’s Variations on La Folia are a set of inventive and brilliant renditions on the theme.
